In several areas of our everyday life, we need the help of others to perform tasks and achieve desired goals.

Although we have made significant progress in the areas of informatics and communication, and in the development of electronic devices that aid in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, nothing can replace the exchange of ideas and the evolution of thoughts, concepts, and attitudes when they develop together, among individuals who have common goals. Nothing replaces a brainstorm.

The editor of an important journal needs the help of co-editors, associate editors, internal reviewers and, often, of external reviewers.

The main author of a scientific work, in most cases, relies upon the invaluable collaboration of co-authors, so that the end result is the best possible.

The head of an academic department or chief of a medical clinic needs the active participation of the team members.

A scientific conference will not achieve the same success without the active participation of the individuals working in each sector.

This idea of active participation and collaboration in everyday decisions can also be extended to family life, which will certainly benefit the relationship among family members, drawing them closer, and bringing more happiness into the home.

In this type of less-centralized relationship, some watchwords must be respected: transparency, ethics, humility, patience, listening, respect, support, encouragement, partnership, availability, willingness, and participation, among many others.

Finally, I would like to thank the active participation of our members, employees, and members of several committees, departments, and commissions of ABORL-CCF, who are always crucial in aiding us to make better decisions and lead our association into the right direction.
